salt dpugh ornaments on a tray

Cookie cutter, pure imagination or even sculpting, this easy to make, simple 3 ingredient salt dough can handle it all. Similar to the homemade play dough I posted about a few weeks ago, but these creations are made to last. They can even be painted after baking.

This kind of craft is guaranteed to make a great gift from the kids to the grandparents!

Let your imagination flow and you will be amazed at what you or the kids can come up with!

3 ingredient salt dough recipe
Follow these simple step by step instructions for lots of easy rainy day fun with this simple 3 ingredient salt dough.
  1. Add the warm water and salt to a mixingbowl and stir until most of the salt is dissovled.
  2. Add the flour to the salt water and mix well until well combined. Knead the dough until nice and smooth ball forms.
  3. Making ornaments? Roll the dough out about 1/4 inch or 5 mm thick. Making a different kind of creation? Simply take some of the dough and get going!
  4. Bake your salt dough creation at 250F until dry. Our ornaments for example took 1.5 hours. Bigger and thicker creations will take longer
TIP: To hang up your creations later, simply use a straw to poke a whole before baking!

Optional: After baking and cooling off, you can paint your creations with acrylic paint. For even better results after painting, I suggest using a sealant on top of the paint.

We like to leave ours plain after we bake them and add a few drops of Essential Oils on them and hang them up in closets, around the house etc to act as diffusers.

Don’t forget to let me know what you created with this dough down below! I’d love to hear all about it!
